Please join the Mitchell Hamline Law Review, ACLU-Mitchell Hamline, League of Women Voters, Common Cause, and the Minnesota Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Alliance and for a presentation and discussion on U.S. election law. This event will be entirely virtual, so is free and open to the public. The program is pending for three CLE credits— if you plan to seek CLE credits, please register using the link at the bottom of the page.  

 

Part One features three presenters who are co-authors of an article to be published in the first issue of the Mitchell Hamline Law Review, Vol. 49. The presenters will discuss forgotten U.S. history that is pivotal to understanding the impact of election law on the right of the people to elect their president.

 

Professor and Dean emeritus at University of Hawai’i Law School, Aviam Soifer, J.D.

 

Professor of History at St. Olaf College, Dr. Michael Fitzgerald

 

Independent researcher, author, and retired public sector attorney Mark Bohnhorst, J.D.

 

Part Two features a dialogue among the three presenters and three well-known authors currently writing on issues of election law:

 

Dr. Alex Keyssar is currently the Matthew W. Stirling, Jr. Professor of History and Social Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School.

 

Jesse Wegman, J.D. has been a member of the New York Times editorial board since 2013.

 

Dr. John Koza is the founder and current Chair of National Popular Vote.

 

Part Three features a discussion on public policy considerations, current legislation, current litigation in the U.S. Supreme Court, and events relevant to presidential elections. Discussion members include elected officials and members of the co-sponsoring organizations.
